Making Disciples - Transforming the World

Worship FAQ

Ours is a welcoming, growing congregation with a great mix of ages and backgrounds. No matter where you're from or who you are, you're sure to find a place here.
People like to know what they're getting into before visiting a new church, so we thought answering some common questions might help make newcomers feel comfortable. Read on!

What can I expect on Sunday morning?
MUMC has 2 Sunday morning worship services.  'Awakening' our contemporary worship starts at 9am and features praise band music, environmental projection and a casual feel.  'Celebration' our blended service starts at 10:30am and includes a blend of contemporary and traditional worship styles, with an organist leading the congregation in traditional hymns as well as a full band leading us in more contemporary praise music. In addition to traditional elements of worship, a typical service at MUMC includes a brief message for small children in attendance, and the use of multimedia visual aids to help further illuminate the message.

Are babies and toddlers welcome?
Absolutely! We strive to make MUMC a comfortable, nurturing environment for kids of all ages and their families. During the 9am service Sunday school classes are available starting at age 2 through 5th grade.  During the 10:30am service nursery care is lovingly provided downstairs for small children age 0-2 during the service, and all our nursery workers undergo special training and a background check.  But you're more than welcome to keep the little ones with you in the pew. There is a small crying room at the back of the sanctuary for babies and toddlers (and nursing mothers), complete with a changing table, restroom, rocking chairs and some toys.

What about older children?
Worship for school-aged children begins in the sanctuary during the 10:30am service, where a special time is given to them with their own sermon on their level toward the beginning of the service. Children through fifth grade are then dismissed from the worship service to Children's Church — a time of fun, crafts, games, lessons and other activities downstairs. That special time together is focused on teaching Christian principles and fundamentals for their young lives. Blessing bags filled with coloring activities and stickers also are located at the back of the sanctuary for kids of all ages to use in the sanctuary during the service.

Do you have Sunday School classes?
Yes, Sunday School for children age 2 through 5th grade is at 9 am downstairs in the classrooms.  Youth Sunday School meets between the 2 services and youth (grade 6-12) are encouraged to worship or 'assist' adults in teaching younger children.

What should I wear to church?
An open heart and a smile! If you're worried about your attire, don't be. You'll see everything from the casual jeans and T-shirt crowd to those wearing their Sunday best. All are welcome.
